FAQs about Liology Workshops

What kind of word is Liology?

Liology (pronounced lee-ology) comes from the Chinese word li, which means “the organizing principles of the universe” and ology which means “study.” So Liology means “the study of the organizing principles of the universe.”

What is Liology?

Liology is a framework for experiencing life in an integrated, embodied and connected manner. The practice of Liology integrates the different parts of our lives into a web of meaning.  The underlying theme is kindness: allowing each part of ourselves to feel loved and in harmony with our being.

What happens in a Liology Workshop?

A Liology Workshop is a 2-hour facilitated space in which we explore how a particular theme of Liology relates to our lives. Each workshop incorporates group discussion, guided meditation, qigong, and other embodied practices – frequently music and dance. It is fun, educative, and transformative.

What are the benefits of a Liology Workshop series?

Participating in a Liology Workshop series can help you to:
  • Discover a new, integrated way of experiencing your life
  • Learn how to relate to yourself and others with a greater degree of kindness
  • Meet new friends and build intentional community

Is Liology a new belief system?

No! You don’t need to take on any new beliefs to benefit from Liology. It is a framework that helps you discover the meaning that arises from integrating what is important in your own life.

What traditions does Liology draw from?

Liology draws from traditional Chinese thought, including aspects of Taoism and Buddhism. It is focused on the intersection of these traditions with modern findings in systems thinking, cognitive science and the values of Deep Ecology.

What are the core values of Liology?

Love, harmony and kindness.

What do I need to know about Liology to come to a workshop?

Nothing. Just bring an open mind and be prepared to learn and enjoy yourself.

Do I need to go to the whole series, or can I just drop in?

The more workshops you attend, the greater the benefit. However, each workshop is self-contained and you are welcome to drop in at any time.

How much does a workshop cost?

Liology workshops are offered free, with a suggested donation of $10-20.
